Receiving data from a David Wireless Vantage Pro2

Hi all,

Today a friend from the US took a David 6152 Wireless Vantage Pro2 with him for me

As it's wireless I was thinking of getting the needed data in/to my PC (for some use with HomeSeer, and login)

Does anyone here maybe know of getting the transmitted data from the Vantage Pro2 into the PC?
(I really do not want to buy the "Data Logger" cable for $165)

Please note that as the unit is a US version, the frequency used is in the 902-928 MHz area, but I've been told that if needed it could be changed to 868.0-868.6MHz.

Any info on how to "log" the data to my PC is appreciated.

As far as I know the VP2 sensors use spread-spectrum RF modulation techniques and a proprietary protocol to transmit their signal. I do not think their are any third-party receivers capable of decoding these signals.

I have the VP2 predecessor (Vantage Pro) and did shell-out the extra bucks for the data-logger. As an added bonus it gives you the opportunity to save any logged data for a few months without having to attach a PC to it.

Regarding changing the RX/TX frequency, I doubt it it possible without changing the RF module.

I was afraid of the protocol problem, and did not think that it could be done (I was hoping that I was wrong).

What I meant to say was that they would change the complete unit for an Euro version as when I ordered it I asked for a Euro version (they made a mistake).

I've got some other friends coming over from the US in June (3 months from now), so I might still change my mind on not getting the "data-logger"

Did you order your data-logger in Holland, and if so where?

The datalogger you can get here http://www.hamonline.nl/
They have good service and have the best prices.
My Davis Vantage Pro2 comes from them as well.
Davis has good weather stations accept the software is not that good!
Still need to do some RS232 port monitoring on the device to see how the protocol works and make my own driver.

I will wait 3 months to get the data-logger from the US (if I decide that I need it)
I can almost buy 2 for the price of one (low dollar, US product and "tax-free")

You are correct about the software. It doesn't look that good.
Does the official software write all the data to a database?
If so, it's easy to reuse, and do with it whatever we want with it

Right you are, much cheaper in the US with current low Dollar rates
No database, the data is written to .WLK files which I can not read!
But you can export to a text file every X minutes.
I hate it! Still on my ToDo list..... but the list is long!

The Davis software sucks, I can second that.

The RS-232 protocol specs can be downloaded from the Davis website: http://www.davisnet.com/support/weather ... v2.1.0.zip, so you should not be needing a protocol monitor to analyze how it works. It is all there in a .PDF file.

Forgot that one, so long ago, still need to make a program that reads the data directly from the Davis Vantage Pro2. I was hoping to find an example on the Internet but no luck yet.

You all kicked me to start searching again and I found this Microsoft Dot.net weatherlink program that can connect to the Davis Vantage Pro and get the data directly.
