Relay on PGM: diode necessary?

Post by EVO »

Hello,

I have a few questions. I hope someone can help me.

I have a PowerMax Pro and connected a relay (see attached photo) to the PGM output. The relay (on a 2 second pulse) switches a KlikaanKlikuit AWST-8800, which in turn switches KlikaanKlikuit recievers.

My questions are:

Do in need to install a (safety) diode in the PGM -relay circuit to eliminate the sudden reverse voltage spike when the 12v PGM is turned off? Or is that not necessary with the PowerMax Pro? (maybe not because of the type of internal PGM switch used in the PMPro?)
If it is necessary: what diode (type, number) should I use?
Does the diode need to be installed in parallel next to the relay or in series? If parallel, is it okay to fasten the diode directly in the PowerMax pro 12V and PGM terminals, together with the wires of the relay? Or is it better to attach the diode over the terminals of the relay?

I hope someone can help me.

Regards, EVO
