is there a certain way to connect to the gate way?
must i first connect a thermostat and a boiler or can i try the gateway with only a thermostat to test if the gate way works?

Edwin,

If you've ordered the gateway at opentherm-gateway.com, you will need the following documents:
http://www.opentherm-gateway.com/media/ ... ctions.pdf

You can find all the order information at:

Good luck. Shout if you have any question.

I would suggest you first configure the LAN/WIFI interface as described at the web shop. Then start otmonitor and connect to ipaddress:1001 of the LAN/WIFI device. Connect the USB plug if you haven't already done that and power up the gateway. You should see some text. I understand the PIC comes pre-flashed with the diagnostic firmware. In that case the diagnostic screen of otmonitor will pop up. Check that you can interact with the menu. Only when that works, connect your thermostat and run test #2. You should get a long line of numbers about once a second. Then connect your boiler. If your thermostat and boiler appear to communicate happily, you can flash the real gateway firmware.

Note: I have no actual experience with the USB or LAN/WIFI interface, so things may work a little different than I describe. You may also want to pull the plug of the gateway before connecting the thermostat and boiler.
