The Control From Anywhere Home Sentry.
This robotic sentry can be controlled by any remote device capable of browsing the internet, allowing you to monitor your home from anywhere in the world. Audio and high-resolution (640 x 480) video are streamed in MPEG4 format, and it can take still pictures and e-mail them to you; it has a two-way microphone and speaker that enable real-time interaction with subjects. Three wheels support its chassis, providing 360 of nimble movement as its camera boom extends to provide a wide field of view while surveying its surroundings. You can set the sentry with up to 10 paths for a customized patrol; it will move along a path, detecting and avoiding obstacles with its infrared sensor, and repeat the sequence until issued new orders. It operates for two hours from its rechargeable battery which draws power from the included recharging base (the sentry can locate its base using its built-in infrared sensor when you command it to re-charge remotely); full charge requires two hours. Requires a PC running Windows XP or Vista (or Macintosh with a Wi-Fi card), a broadband internet connection, router, or other type of wireless access point (sentry has a 100' wireless range). Ages 8 and up. 5" H x 10 1/2" L x 9" W; (10" H with camera deployed) (5 lbs.)

Item 75738 ................... $299.95
Expected ship date 09/26/2008.

Sorry for the double post, the dates of review links on the frontpage suggested it was brand new ;-)

Remote sentry driving robot

Post by Lennart »

Hi all,

Received my Wowwee Rovio from Red5 (UK based shop) last Friday. First experiences after playing around for a few hours:

- The first hurdle to overcome is connecting the UK 3 pin adapter plug to a Dutch wall outlet. Duct-tape rules!

- It's smaller than you may have thought based on all the videos and images that are out there.

- It generally works well and is fun to play with :-). Camera images are ok, given its purpose, but you need good lighting conditions. The built-in led light is a joke. WEP only support is a serious disadvantage.

- Having it connect to your local wireless network may turn out to be problematic (it still didn't work for me after fiddling around for a few hours). However, you can always connect to its built in access point. Still need to do some more playing around.

- The cat does not like it :-).

Hi Lennart, i need some informations: i need 2 or 3 rovios on different floors, i think that if i assign different ips i can control them all. Do you have crashes if you run multiples session of the control software? then if there a workaround to let rovio start AUTOMATICALLY? You have Homeseer like me, don't you think that an event triggered by a MS13 sensor could start the software of Rovio with a saved path map in it? Could you make a test please?. thanks :) Lorenzo.
P.S : your serial LCD works perfectly!
