if Toon is asking you "Enter the runlevel" then youre inittab is broken.. You need to fix that thing. You will find them in: /etc/inittab

Inittab:

Code: Select all

# /etc/inittab: init(8) configuration.
# $Id: inittab,v 1.91 2002/01/25 13:35:21 miquels Exp $

# This is run first except when booting in emergency (-b) mode.
si::sysinit:/etc/init.d/rcS

# What to do in single-user mode.

# /etc/init.d executes the S and K scripts upon change
# of runlevel.

to make a long story short. I fixed it via teamviewer (With good help from TheHogNL and all others..)..

Remove qt-gui
Install qt-gui
Remove base-uni... and install hem agian
Then I ran into a problem that qml_tenant was empty, taken copy of my own Toon1 and put it in. Same was with the crony.conf
Hes Toon is up and running agian. :)

Is this to do for a complete novice by making the short story long? ;)
I have managed to get myself into the same problem as rotzen did, and also ended up at "enter runlevel:"

If Toon ask you for runlevl. Then you're inittab is broken. Will look if i can post a inittab for Toon1 today.

I do have a working Toon, so I could get the initab from that one?
If so, how do I get it into the broken one?
When I boot the broken one, it wont stop at the password point if I try to put the password there within the 2 seconds.
It is just not reacting to the input.
At the "enter runlevel" point it is possible again to enter whatever you want.

Thanks, Ron.

Password 3BHf2 should work there. Try again, and check your serial cable.

@Wickedmaster, that worked, got the wrong password thought you needed the rooted generated PW.
Thanks!

You could grab the inittab of your other Toon1. You could also take this one:

Code: Select all

# /etc/inittab: init(8) configuration.
# $Id: inittab,v 1.91 2002/01/25 13:35:21 miquels Exp $

# The default runlevel.

Step 1: Log in with serial connection on Toon, with the password that is giving..

Step 2:
BE CAREFUL .. 1 TYPING ERROR IS DEADLY FOR YOUR TOON HERE !!

Code: Select all

setenv addmisc setenv bootargs \$\{bootargs\} mem=\$\{mem\} lpj=999424 init=/bin/sh
Just copy paste my line in Toon..

Step 3:

You can lower your blood pressure now .. Run the following command now:

Code: Select all

run boot_nand
Step 4:

U-Boot opens a command shell at the end of the boot process..

Code: Select all

/bin/sh: can't access tty; job control turned off,
it has no effect.

Step 5:

Now you can fix you're inittab.
Open it with:

Code: Select all

vi /etc/inittab
You will almost certainly see this. ~ ~ ~ ~ remove that.
If you remove it, copy en paste the inittab that i post here, or you other inittab from Toon1.
Save it with the following steps:

ESC then : then wq then enter
Just be sure, check if everything is ok, open inittab agian with: vi /etc/inittab
If everything is ok, do: ESC and : and q then enter.

Step 6:

Reboot Toon with:

Code: Select all

reboot -f
If you can't figure it out. Just send me an e-mail or message, so i can always watch with you with teamviewer. :)

Thanks @maiden.
Toon is booting now till 1/3 and is stuck there.
Do have SSH again, and tried the update-rooted script but it isn't working "update-rooted.sh not found"
will have to look into that later today.

But a lot of thanks already!
It is so cool to get this info and help to get hings fixed.

If the script is not executable, you can get that message.
Try
sh ./update-rooted.sh

or

chmod 755 ./update-rooted.sh

and then execute.

Hmmm... You can do 2 things here..

1:

In SSH from Toon, go to:

Code: Select all

vi /etc/inittab
And change :

Code: Select all

qtqt:245:respawn:/usr/bin/startqt >/dev/null 2>&1
TO

Code: Select all

qtqt:245:respawn:/usr/bin/startqt >/var/log/qt 2>&1
Dont forget to change it back to the first one, That log file fills up very quickly !!
This will post a log file, so you can see what is happend..
You can monitor it with:

Code: Select all

tail -f /var/log/qt
Other option is to look or update-rooted will be on that path, with:

Code: Select all

ls
If it is there, run this command:

Code: Select all

sh update-rooted.sh -f
This will fix some files for you :)

Fixed! :D

@mAiden & marcelr;
Had to do the initab copying twice, something went wrong copying it was missing a few lines (dunno why..)
After that sh update-rooted.sh -f fixed some, it still had an issue with qmf_tenant.xml.
Used Winscp to fix that, the file was empty so I copied it from my working Toon.

After reboot the only thing needed fixing was activation, but got that done as well with the help of this forum search function.

Learned a lot from today you guys, Thanks!

Hi,

Is this noob proof?
I'm thinking about getting a second Toon before ruining my own because I have a lot of problems with it. Well a lot lol. Most used is the weather, power consumption and PV monitoring. Weather is offline a lot and paying €4,50 a month just for the weather ain't Dutch.

Or are there people in the Netherlands selling pre-rooted Toon's?
