Scanner + software?

looks nice too, but basicly it comes down to this:

- scanner duplex (color too)
- one button press to scan to network share (it can be via usb, then it dumps it on a share drive, which has same effect)
- twain
- optional, pdf software for global overview (indexing all pdf's via ocr)
- allowed to be a all-in-one printer aswell, but for best result i presume it should only be a scanner only.

A lot of scanners have a button on the front, but you still need to say "ok" on the pc itself. I just want my mail scanned, so i walk in , put it in the scanner, press a button and be done with it.

Keep in mind that with the brother everything works over tcp/ip. I doubt you're able to find a duplex color tcp/ip scanner for a lower price

i allready found the cdw for 714.- euro's including taxes. i can still get the taxes back.. so it would be 600.. or maybe a bit less..

btw if you setup the firewall in the right way then it would tik some boxes like
- scanner duplex (color too) (yes)

- twain (yes)
- it can be set in a way it produces pdf files

i read that it can also dump it to a ftp server.. which in my case can also be a samba share on a linux server to my windows (so in the end same result as one button press) if i understand it correctly.

Because if it sends it to ftp share, it cant really have any user input.. i think

it's just place paper on scanner and press button to scan to a pc (i'm not sure for the ftp option)
