Incidently i came a cross this model wich seems to be more pro with ir sensors and gps on board

That's the http://www.DIYDrones.com project. I have pre-ordered one of those a couple of days ago. It's a promising Open Source project, but not quite mature yet. Though they are working on a software version that can stable a regular model helicopter. Per-alpha state, but very promising.

If you're serious into multicopter flying, check out http://www.mikrokopter.de Those guys are quite expensive, but they offer a quite mature project.

Final hint on the AR.Drone: Be careful flying outside: It is know to ascend out of control.
