Yep I did, with 1 stopbit.

I tried different drivers, to no avail.
I bought an USB-bub from Jeelabs, I'm still suspecting my RS232-USb converter.

What does "openhaard mode" mean to you? If this is some iSense feature, I don't expect the gateway would have to do anything special.

The serial cable can be 150 meter max

I would not give any guarantees it will work over such a distance. I think the RS232 spec says 15 meters. That's on the very conservative side if using real RS232 drivers (with +/- 12V power supply). But with a MAX232, which has to generate +/- 12V out of 5V, I would try to limit the cable length to a few meters.

If you have an 'openhaard' in your living (where of course the isense is located) the rest of the house is getting colder.

You mention Remeha and iSense. So is this a feature of the thermostat? The part that is not clear to me is what kind of support you think you need from the gateway.

If you want the gateway to take over control of the boiler, that's not so simple. If you look at how the thermostat normally controls the boiler, you'll see that it doesn't set it to some level and leave it there. It periodically switches the heating on and off.

Maybe it would be possible to store a few parameters on the last full on/off cycle, like the amount of time the heating was off and how long it was subsequently switched on and at what level(s). Then make the gateway repeat that pattern when switched to "openhaard mode", but I don't know how well that would work. And it would require quite a bit of code and effort to implement that.

for as far as i know is the "openhaart mode" (fire place mode:) is something that the thermostat does but also with the boier it self.
reading from the manual is that when enabled the internal thermostat sensor is disabled the it starts regulating on the watertemperature of the boiler

Another option could be to connect a EZL70 (http://www.eztcp.com/en/products/ezl-70.php) to either the PIC or RS232 output.

as suspected the Conrad RS232-USB converter was the culprit.
With a Jeelabs USB-BUB everthings works like a charm!

But did you plug the usb-bub on the OTG using the RS232 header or did you need to solder ? (Pics??)

I used these Wirejumpers to plug into the MAX232 socket (I removed the chip).

Today we had some problems on the powerline (a short dip in our case, but I also heard reports of 1.5 hours nearby), the kind where some devices power off (PC's, but not all), some reboot (Simplecortex board, ELV MAX), some just keep working (Server, NAS) and some die an hour later (switch).

And suddenly I started receiving those SE (Syntax Error) responses too, for about 41 minutes; they came and went automagically...
I've never had those before and will probably not see them again either (until the next powerline problem...?)
