There seem to be a lot of factory refurbished
Sony VAIO UX380N around, on various websites

I assume that is because there is now a new model with a better processor...

the UX380N is the USA model with simlocked Edge GSM modem (which I don't need)...

the price is greatly reduced

EUR 2500,- ===> EUR 1000,-

I got mine here :

http://www.expansys.nl/p.aspx?i=164687

Processor Intel Core Solo Processor U1500 (1.33GHz , 2MB L2 Cache)
Memory 1GB PC2-3200 400MHz DDR2 SDRAM
Hard Disk 40GB
Display 4.5 Touch Screen (1024x600)
Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g WLAN

I plan to remove the edge card and replace the hard disk with an SSD.

The sony device has similar performance specs to the asus R2Hv.

The graphics chip used on the asus can't handle the vista aero theme. This works fine on the sony....

and the screen resolution on the sony is higher 800x480 -> 1024x600,so I need to redesign my NetRemote interface again)...

the fan is a little more quiet on the sony (but still audible)
I haven't experimented with fan control yet...

you're right, I got my devices mixed up...

I replaced the 40GB hard disk with the 32GB 1.8" SSD with zif socket that I used in the r2hv before.

(I left the edge modem in place, there was too much disassembly involved. I didn't want to risk it...)

the hard disk has an accelerometer taped to it, to switch off the hard disk when 'shaking' the device....
that functionality is no longer needed.

note that I read somewhere that the zif sockets on these 1.8" hard disks are only certified for 30 insertions.
So I should stop moving this thing around....
