Information at your fingertips

Post by Digit »

I switched to Chartdirector for creating my webcharts this weekend, after using/testing several other methods in the past. Reason was that I still wasn't really satisfied with what i had, so time to try something new. I must say, i'm happy with Chartdirector now i have it.

First try-out were some charts on the homepage, but when things started to fall in place i started something new. I mean, among 170000 rows of data there are 10000 rows of gas usage data stored, but they're not at my fingertips...so it was time for a drill-down excercise!

Although the page is not really finished yet, it gives a good impression of what you can do with your data with the right tools. (Hint: click on the green bars [8D])

Looks nice, but as you have posted the URL on the forum, Google will find it.
Make sure that you give the page / site a good title.
Naming it "Untitled Page" is not really good for SEO'ing a site, and it will take some time to get rid of the name when Google got it in the DB :-)

Thanks, yes the page has to contain more information about what you see and what you can do etc.

Some other issues have to be addressed, like rearranging the charts. The page is to long to view all charts on screen at the same time and clicking a bar makes the page go back to the top -> not nice.

@digit: all the charts fit nicely on my screen here.. (1280x1024)

would be nicer if the page didn't have to reload, more like those instant scripts, but thats a tad more work..

It doesn't do a reload, just a partial reload; that's what happening.

Initial download of the page is 56k, and 4 images of 1k.
After that the response to a click is 16k, and ofcourse again 4 images of 1k.

Those 16k are imagemaps and other stuff not in the png images itself but necessary to show the tooltips and get the right postbacks on the next click.

Or maybe i don't understand what you're trying to tell me?

With my old-fashioned 1600x1200 CRT no problem to, untill i sat down behind my laptop :-)
One other thing that surprised me: IE7 is showing the first 2 charts in a different way (next to each other) than FF3... [:(!]
