Using OTGW for a ventilation unit

Hi here,
I'm looking to integrate my house ventilation unit to home assistant.
The ventilation unit has a two-pole screw connector that can be set to use the OpenTherm protocol.
From what I understand from http://otgw.tclcode.com/matrix.cgi, the OTGW is meant to see the messages between boilers and thermostats, and can also send messages. Total newbie here, sorry.
Would it also work for me to monitor the values from the ventilation unit (like temperature, rpm, ...), and hopefully also send commands (switch from ventilation modes, ...) ?
If it matters, the unit I have is a Ubiflux W400 (not the "+" nor the "vigor" version).
