@wifi: Bwired is black :-)
At Lempens: I have replaced the fan with a silent low rpm SilenX 4x4x1cm 3200rpm fan
And added 1 extra fan for the 10.000rpm Western Digital Raptor HD, I will replace this HD with a SSD drive, but need a very fast one!

Pieter,

I have finally mounted a new one server for HA with tha same HW than you.
It performs quite well with a lot of running applications.

The noise from the CPU fan is however an issue, comparing with my old HS HW with silent vents.

I have searched for silent vents on 40x40x10 mm and found some inteesting options. The question is, 4cm is still to big to replace the CPU fan which is even smaller. Could you give me some indications (or even better pictures) on how you replaced and fixed the fan to the CPU disipator?

Thanks a lot!

Juan

I had the same problem, replaced the fan with a SilenX iXtrema PRO IXP-11-14 - 40 x 40 x 10 mm.
14dBa and 3500rpm

Ok, but how did you mounted on the dissipatator? holes for screws don't match because original fan is smaller than your silenX

thanks

Juan
