origenae 12.1" touch screen (1280x800, 16:10)
I've got one of these on order :
http://www.origenae.com/en/panel_t12.htm
it's not cheap : > EUR 750,- !
it connects via a SINGLE 5m cable to a pc via a little pcb that goes INSIDE a pc :
(unfortunately, I will have to make a simple box for that pcb with vga&usb&12V 2A connections, because I plan to connect it to a notebook / UMPC type pc which has no room for this pcb... but all that will be hidden from view...

Home Automation & music & video (no TV)
I will run netremote on it...
(currently run on a UMPC, which I find a bit too small.
I may just keep using the UMPC hardware and simply connect this screen. not sure yet...)
screens look something like this (I still need to redesign for the new widescreen resolution of this touch screen) :
http://tinyurl.com/2mujvx
So I won't connect this touch screen to my (vista ultimate) Home Theatre PC (which is connected to my TV, a logitech mx air mouse & dinovo edge keyboard)
I don't like using MCE for music, because my collection is > 20.000 songs and scrolling through 1800 album covers to play some music, sucks...
I don't have tv connected to my HTPC (because I have UPC digital cable tv and as far as I know, there are no digital tv cards/software that can handle UPC encrypted signals)
I have zoomplayer (http://www.inmatrix.com) & j river media center (http://www.jrmediacenter.com) installed on the HTPC (both of which I can remote control from netremote/girder)

origenae 12.1" touch screen (1280x800, 16:10)
I received the device today :
I temporarily connected it to the VGA port of the ASUS UMPC on the right.
I couldn't select the native resolution of 1280x800 on the UMPC, so I chose 1280x768. This is automatically scaled by the LCD display to fill the screen.
I cut a USB lead in half ,wired it to the PCB and plugged it into the UMPC, to be able to use the touch screen...
Initial impressions: The LCD display is not as vibrant as the two UMPC's in the picture.
The vertical viewing angle is limited, so you need to look straight at it for the best image...
But that's an issue for most LCD displays...
note: the manual states that you can connect 12V to the external plug on the slot plate.
There is an error on the PCB...
If you want to apply 12V on the external plug, then you need to make a molex plug with a loop between the 5V and 12V pins...

There is no problem connecting it to your eee box....
(or any pc with a vga port)
But this system was designed to be put inside a pc with normal slots.
which the eee pc (and my UMPC) doesn't have....
(see pictures and description in first post)
So, you'll have to add a 12V 2A power supply and a USB cable (for the touch screen and USB hub inside the monitor) yourself and put the PCB in a little box if required...
Then your eee box can be 5 metres from the lcd display...
The only thing that I don't know is if the eee box graphics drivers support the native resolution of 1280x800

I now connected the touch screen as secondary monitor to my Vista Home Theatre PC. (mobile core 2 duo T7400 2.16Ghz, Geforce 7600GT, primary monitor is 1920x1080 TV connected via HDMI)
I used powerstrip (http://www.entechtaiwan.com/util/ps.shtm) to get the native resolution of 1280x800 to work...
I also installed ultramon (http://www.realtimesoft.com/ultramon/) to get a taskbar on the secondary monitor...
The 'normal' touch screen drivers can be configured to work with the secondary monitor.
I use a logitech air mouse to navigate on the primary monitor.. (TV)
I also tried the vista 'tabletpc' touch screen drivers but that didn't work on the secondary monitor... So the Vista tabletpc functionality is not availabe on my HTPC...
I tested playing a full screen movie on the primary monitor (using zoomplayer) and touching the secondary monitor at the same time.
That works ok if 'keep taskbar on top of other windows' is unchecked.
Vista Ultimate Dreamscene/Deskscapes works ok.
I see the same dynamic wallpaper animation on both monitors...
When an application goes full screen on the primary monitor, then the animation stops on the secondary screen...
It's not possible to start a screensaver on the primary monitor while still showing the desktop on the secondary.
(ultramon does allow you to set up different screensavers for each monitor)

What I mean when paying 750 euro for a monitor...they should also deliver a power adapter that will work..
Monitor looks great.

That is not the concept of this system.
It is unique in that it is freestanding (on a coffee table) and connects to the outside world via a single cable...
The idea is to use your HTPC's power supply...
i.e. you put the pcb INSIDE your HTPC, plug in a spare hard disk (molex) plug and a spare usb header, connect the supplied vga loopback cable and voila it works... no other parts that you need to buy...
With your eee box that is not possible, because it has no slots...
So you'll have to get power to it another way...
If you are looking for a ready-made solution for use with your eee box, then above device is not suitable...
you can get a different type of touch screen
which will require 3 cables (power, vga, usb)
e.g.
http://www.multimediapc.nl/index.php/cPath/6_184
unless you buy one with a pc already inside..
