Ethernet to RS232/USB - DIY solution

Has anyone tried a DIY solution to solve the common problem above, eg:

These devices seem very cost effective, if you have the time & skills to build your own solution. The above device has WiFi & bluetooth hardware builtin, plus USB & ethernet. I recently purchased one from ebay for 8 euro, so plan to have a play over christmas break
BTW - my first time back to this forum for 2 years, it looks like I have missed a lot of good stuff on here. Some catching up to do I think
