here's a situation. most of the time my wife and I are not at home. I am hoping to create a door chime that actually calls my cellphone via 3G with video. or at least a 2G phone call. anyone have any idea how to get it done?

You can do this using the Siemens Gigaset HC450 DECT door intercom. Together with an IP enabled DECT base station you can forward door calls to your cell phone and pretend that you're home, but too busy to answer the door when somebody rings your bell.

then wouldn't my visonic panel have a problem? cuz the phoneline is digital.

oh my bad. DECT is the phone type.. not analog/digital phone lines.

so i need to get a intercom AND the cordless. hmmm.

i dont have a phone in the house. everything is via mobile at the moment.

Well, you only need a DECT VoIP base-station, not a phoneline. (And a SIP account to communicate with your mobile)

As dowser said: You just need a DECT base station, either a VoIP, an ISDN or an analog version. Usually a combination including a hand set is cheaper:

The read die-hards here have an Asterisk (of a SIP-X) server to handle all IP telephony. This server can forward door calls to your cell phone number, but I'm sure it's possible without Asterisk as well.

You don't.
They connect through DECT as any other handset.

Sorry i don't understand! Any doorbell is triggered by an impulse (finger push) running along cables, so how could you connect a standard doorbell (without phone options) to a dect base station, that i think, has a phone plug to be triggered? thanks.

A standard door-bell without any phone options is just a switch.
A switch is just a passive trigger and needs to be connected to something if it should affect a phone, corded or cordless.

Can you describe what you would like it to do, when connected to the DECT base station?

In fact my doorbell is a standard one, passive switch to make play a bell. this should be connected to a voip line and send the voice of who is ringing the doorbell to a predefined phone (cel****ar) number. too difficult to realize?

drmacchi: its not that easy, you need a mic, a speaker, you need some sort of voip behind it.. and it needs to dial out when you press the buzzer, and you dont want it to call you when your home perhaps. Also you want to open the door with the phone for instance which requires some sort of numeric response from the phone (like asterisk can) and that all.. thats not easy.

Gigaset HC450 is just a box you place at the door, and it hooks up to your voip sollution (which can be asterisk) and then other phones hook up to it aswell.. and then your done, it can also open the door and stuff.

If you really like your current doorbell, you can keep that button and connect it to some homebrewed solution. As snelvuur mentions, you will need a microphone, a speaker, something to attach it to a computer (or a dialer) and a SIP account.

The simple solution is to get a Simens Gigaset HC450, a VoIP base-station and just follow the step-by-step directions.

My suggestion is:
If you need to ask on a forum how to connect your doorbell to a mobile phone, go with the Gigaset solution.
An Aserisk solution is powerfull, but has a steep learning curve and is overkill just for a doorphone.
