Electricity meter with S0 output DIN 43864

Post by Willem4ever »

Guys,

I have a electricity meter with a S0 output following DIN 43864 specifications. I can only find maximum ratings for this standard, i.e. 27 VDC, 27 mA. I believe this is a normal OC (opto-coupler) output, so in theory i should be able to connect it directly to a counter like the TAI8585, or do I need additional components ?

Thanks, Willem.

Electricity meter with S0 output DIN 43864

Willem,

AFAIK the TAI8586 has opto-couplers, the TAI8585 doesn't...

What i do know for sure, is that i once connected a KWh meter directly to a counter from hobbyboards.com based on a DS2423, just like the TAI858* is. I can't recall exactly how i connected everything, but i *do* recall i didn't need any additional components or power source.

The hobbyboards kit i used does not have opto-couplers 'in front' of the DS2423. And the TAI8585 is much like hobbyboards kit.

Further more, i know i once read a topic on the homeseer forum a long time ago about this subject, and i had a quick look for you to see if i could find it again, and here it is:

See page 2, that's where the TAI8586 is discussed.

HTH,

Robert.

Hi Digit,

I'm using the the GP1 counter from Embedded Data Systems. I decided to take my changes and hooked it all up today, and yes it is counting !!! While awaiting the Eltako meter, i bought an El Cheapo on eBay (for testing purposes) and it seems to work fine. Having the stuff on the floor (below my desk) makes it all a bit easier to test the setup before it all goes in the wiring closet.

Willem.

Some output ....
