Hi guys (and maybe girls),

I am I-1 from Rotterdam (The Netherlands).
I am currently busy with starting up the home automation project for my house.

I need to have a kick off point so I made up a list where I want to start.

Maybe you can give some suggestions if I am wrong or can do things better.

My list:

To Do:
- set up simple website for testing purpose
- view status of lights (on/off/dimmed)
- change status of lights (on/off/dimmed)
- register movement in a specific area
- register changes of the above things and put that into a MySQL Database

I think this is enough for me to start of with.

I also need a list of stuff that I need to purchase
Mayme you can help me with that.

I know that I need an X10 built-in module for the lights
But what do I need to send the signals to my PC and to my webpage?

Sorry for the stupid questions ... but I am new @ this so I need some help.

Thank you in advance,
I-1

Hi Iwan,

For X10 Hardware you can start with e.g. a starterkit from IntelliHome. Movement can be detected with either Marmitek or Visonic devices. The interface to be used is manufactured by RFXCOM. Software you either write yourself, or you use the populair Homeseer package (not free)

Cheers,
Willem.

Thanks Willem,

I will order the "EasyTouch Home PC USB/Serieel" today.

What devicetypes (Marmitek/Visonic/RFXcom) do I need for movement?

I know that I need a module that detects movement ... but what type?
And what type of RFXcom devices (transmitter/receiver???)

Thanks Willem 4 your answer!

You can start with the cheap stuff, and get yourself a MS13 from marmitek. I advise you to look at other online-stores as well. Intellihome is not the cheapest, but the have some nice starterkits (see for more information The RFXCOM receiver is sold through the RFXCOM site or at http://www.elekhomica.nl/ this is the device you want to start with.

Iwan, i think it is better to use this really basic starterkit

it consist of:

AM12 - apparaat schakelmodule plugin
CM11 - USB computer interface
LM12 - Lamp dimmer plugin module

Let me know if there is anything else you would like to know.

Willem.

Hi
Here is a list of domotica web shops, check them all before you order. With some shops you don't have to pay for shipping if you order above a certain amount.

Good luck
