Okay.
Today we finished the Touchscreen project.

1st we need some measurements.


We had to move the screen a bit to the right as the wires from the lighs switch were in the way.

We decided to make it stick out a bit (the hole is deep enought to make it even with the wall), but we decided that this way it looks way better.
It's now sticking out about 5 mm.

I was fortunate enough to put in the box before the walls were put in. I ordered some magnets from Conrad, and waiting for my chrome-metal frame which is being laser cut this week to finish it of.

I read in another thread that a metal frame around a touchscreen was not a good idea.
Worked like a gigantic 'spoel'.
Don't know which thread though..

I had a problem with the gigantic 'spoel'. http://www.domoticaforum.eu/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1429 But maybe this is only with my touchscreen. I have a hard glass layer like a Photo-play machine.

I tried my new chrome-metal frames using magnets today. It doesn't affect the Mimo touchscreen. It doesn't influence the touch functionality, and it doesn't deform the graphics.

You can see a magnet on the second picture, I ordered them at Conrad.





Can't wait to get the walls painted and put the screens in.

He did some other work for me too and this was just something extra, so I don't know how much this cost exactly, but I don't think it's much. As soon as I get the bill I'll let you guys know.
Most of the work is getting the shape correctly in to AutoCAD format. The other thing is order cost for the laser work, because I ordered more, there were minimal extra costs for this.

Furthermore, he used chrome-metal because stainless steel is not magnetic. He then brushed it so it looks just like brushed stainless steel.

I just received the bill, the frames where about 32,50 EUR excl. BTW a piece.

Thats not to bad! I will give him a call sometime next week.

Looks nice Post-IT, good to hear it works, very slick. I think it's only with capacitive screens that the 'spoel' problem arises. Anybody had the 'spoel' problem with a resistive screen?

BTW, how are you attaching the magnets to the front-plate? Glue?

I have to wait until the walls are painted to make the final adjustments, but my intention is to glue the magnets on or flush mount them in the wooden enclosure (which is in the wall). Then fix the touchscreen in the wooden enclosure using velcro, and spacers if needed. Then to finish things of, click the metal frame/plate on the magnets.

I could have just sticked them to the wall using glue or double-sided tape or something. But because the on/off and brightness switches are on the frontside of the screen, I wanted them to be easily accessible when needed.

Because I used chrome metal instead of real stainless steel (RVS) it is magnetic. Stainless steel (RVS) is normally not magnetic. The chrome metal received the same brush treatment as the brushed RVS (RVS-320) would have. That's why they look exactly the same. The only difference is, it can form rust when it comes in to contact with too much water. But hey... it's a touchscreen, so no water involved there...
