Dear domotica friends,
I need your support for some calculations and experiences.

I tested an IPCam that generates MJpeg in live-feed mode.
When I configure the camera at 5 fps, the throughput indicated is about 1200 Kbps
(it is slightly depending if the picture is still or has moving objects).
This means that such a basic 1 camera solution
has higher throughput requirement
than most internet connections subscriptions offer
(many internet connections just have 256-512Kbps upload speed).
Is my calculation correct ?
Is 5 fps too optimistic ?
What are your experiences with throughput in video feed uploading from your home/office ?

depends on your width/height of the picture, also if there is any compression at all.. i can watch t.v. with my slingbox even though i only have about 90kb/s upload.. but that because of compression, so those things are possible (and its faster then 5fps)

best person to ask is pieter, since he has adsl lines which he uses for the camera's too. (and i think its not that bad either) and those are always on the webpage..

For your info:
I tested VGA resolution (640x480); MJpeg; without compression.
If I test with H264,
I see throughput 400-1000 Kbps for 30 fps.
