Powermax pro Remote Programmer

I seem to not have a lot of good fortun with connecting to hardware. (damn plugwise software)
I have a powermax pro and the rs232 interface.
i have got a (sweex ) usb to rs232 adapter and that is set to com7
i set the software to connect to com7 the software is searching for the powermax but it can't find it. only thing i can find is the download code AAAA and installcode 9999.
the powermax is set to factory settings any one found any problems with what i am doing?

First you must be able to connect to the Powermax. Only to login you need the download code. So if you cannot even connect to the Powermax, there is something wrong with either you usb-serial converter, your cable or the RS232 interface in the Powermax.

Try a different usb port in an attempt to get a lower com port number. Some software does not like the higher port numbers.
