Question about 19 inch "housing"

All,

So i have got loads of 19 inch stuff now, .. a nice cabinet with all wires coming in..

However, the patch panel, some other panels, router, switch, pc can all be 19 inch.. BUT..

I still have ippower and an axis241q and some power supply's.. but those are all not 19 inch.

Is there a solution for this? I though by myself that you could also just take a 4u servercasing, strip it bare.. and you have a nice place to put it all in (to keep it all nice)

However these things costs loads of money to just have a bare one :) Any other brave idea's out there?

Just putting a piece of wood on the bottom of the 19inch cabinet is just not nice compared how i did the rest..

Worst case scenario you could use something else than wood to mount stuff on. I've seen some people mounting stuff with tie-wraps to black painted metal sheets (the ones with holes in it all over, I'd show you a picture but can't find a picture back of it) Still not the most elegant solution but better looking than just a slab of wood.

Ciao,
Esteban

Only this would be a shelf where you connect stuff on, so if it could be on rails.. say 2u or 4u.. that would be the best idea.. the second link of fantic does have some nice shelf, but not on rails ;)

http://www.ps4all.nl/winkel/Codegen-4U5 ... zwart.html

This for instance, is not *that* expensive.. but then i need to cut out all crap i dont want.. dont know if that is easy.. (but then i can put it on rails)

I can see your point with http://www.marktplaza.nl/Uitschuifbare- ... 038790.php for instance.. but then there is no front cover.. :) i know i'am very picky.. but if the whole front is closed, so should that be.. i can however use 2u space for instance, and wrap the devices on that thing.. but with a front panel with screws, you cant easilly "eject" it anymore..

@marco: patch panels? what type of things you have?

Hi Eric,

We did some project with dell some while ago , the developed a with range of ( i think it called ) "bazels" with those things there are plates with front covers etc. The where often used to mount some multiple Fiberglas switches at one panel ( dual san solution)

But the would be very expensive i expect.

For the patch panels , i will look tomorrow and take same picture

Cheers
Marco

Erik,

Look for a dl1600 Compaq server that you can strip, it is 4U high and it has rails and even a cableguide for keeping your cables tidy at the back. only issue is that these rails are not adjustable and you need a pretty deep rack.

So far the "uitschuifbare legbord" with a front panel then would be the nicest option/cheapest.. a 4u server looks the nices, but aint the cheapest.. trying to make it to perfect ;p
