Xanura broken modules

Post by Menno »

I am trying to find out why these Xanura modules are defective after a period of time.

For this i need a number of dead modules to determine what went wrong. I want to buy these defective Xanura modules from everyone on this forum. 5 euro's per defective module, if being repaired I will sell these modules on this forum for a reasonable price (components and repair time included).

Please respond, is this a contribution to the 'defective Xanura modules' problem?

What type of modules do you have?

I think about 10 or 20 modules to start with.

Menno,

(I bought your 7 SAIX and 4 DAIX modules)

I've more than 50 defective Xanura modules. (SAIX, AIX12, SAX1, AIX, DIX2)
Some of them could be repaired by replacing the 1uF/400V elco in the power supply. (Holec modules of 2003).
After 2003 the new EATON modules came on the market.
Sometimes the 1uF elco trick did the job to repair them.
The problem with the SAIX and SAX1 modules is that they become very warm. You can see this as a brown coloured place on the exterior of the box. I did not succeed in finding the problem.
Eaton did not gave any comment or suggestion after asking a lot of times.
Some SAIX modules are complete black in the interior of the box.

I am still searching for an electrical schema of the modules.
Did you do already some reverse engineering on the modules?

I am suprised that you have 50 modules defective, it seems that it is a designproblem by Holec. I did not really reverse engineer this modules, I only have some experience with designing new circuits. At this moment I have some AIX en DIX modules with problems.

First i am finding out which problems there are and when these did occur.

Did you already did some work on these 50 modules?
Are you willing in to participate in this project?

Menno,

I've tried to repair some of the modules by replacing the elco, but some of them are stuck for the second time.

There is a design error in the modules before march 2003.
Holec (Pedro) told me that the first modules had some specs problems with some parts in the power supply.
The strange thing is that the DAIX10 modules (first delivered in april 2003, other powersupply) are still working fine after 6,5 years without any problems.

I can (will) participate in the project but I cannot promise to spend a lot of time for it.

I will warn everybody that it's very dangerous to open the modules because of the 230V voltage.

I will sponsor this project.
You can have my "bad" SAX1 modules for free :-)

PM me your address (that is if you want the SAX1's), and I'll put it on the post.

See attachment for the infrared images from the (closed) Marmitek AM12 appl. module.
There is no load (user) on the module.

I never made a picture from an open module.
And I do not have Xanura modules.
Perhaps I can help imaging Xanura modules.

Regards, Verkenner
