Looks good.
Wenn do you expect this on the market?

Interesting development. I'm very curious how they will manage to transport uncompressed full HD (about 3Gb) over a CAT5e (100Mb) cable, also including control, power, audio and feeds to multiple in-home devices.
But than again, 12 years ago the today's ADSL specifications sounded like science fiction too...

Cat5e = 1Gbps

What I mend is the 100BaseT Ethernet as described in the article, but even 1Gb/s would not be enough.
But then again, perhaps they only plan to integrate 100BaseT Ethernet into their own infrastructure at higher bit-rates over relatively short (in home) CAT5e cables...(?)

This is meant as a replacement for HDMI, it's a envisioned standard where it's goals are defined as the above quotes. It's not existing yet as far as I know, but it's meant to be easier and cheaper that for instance HDMI. It's set to compete with the wireless HD standard.

Still doesn't answer my question: How will they manage to transport uncompressed full HD (and more) over a CAT5e cable?
(Good thing that this discussion is off-topic!)

Uncompressed full HD will not be transported over IP, but native HDMI! SO this is a point to point connection, at least for the HDMI signal.

Rene, perhaps you didn't read the complete article:
"As the demand for high-quality HD content distribution in the entire home is already
huge, we are hoping that HDBaseT will play the trigger role in advancing this market,
since HDBaseT enables simultaneous multi-room distribution of uncompressed HD
Multimedia as well as data, control and power over a single CAT5e cable," said
ByungJin Kim, research fellow, LG Electronics.
I was not talking about IP, but the physical CAT5e cable.
With my experience in the broadcast technology I can assure that it is not possible to transport at least 3Gb/s (needed for uncompressed HD) over a single CAT5e cable.
So there rises my question, pure out of curiosity: what kind of innovative technology will make this possible?

OK, I apologise.

Rene, no need to apologise, I guess we're both interested in this kind of technology.
But do you think their intention will be possible? At this moment I have my doubts about the probabilities of their plans.

I don't know whether it is technically possible. I am not that deep into HDMI. However, the site mentions some serious corporates supporting the program.

Interesting enough to follow the News updates about this article.
And who knows, we can replace our expensive HDMI/Optical/Audio/Coax spaghetti by a few cheap CAT5e cables some day...

Some article comes to mind where there has been tests between cheap and expensive HDMI cables. Under a certain length, quality did not noticeably drop or differ between cheap or expensive HDMI cables.
Maybe it's based on that principle, but then I would be interested to see how they would transfer this over longer (regular CAT5e) cables.
Found a reference to the article:

Here's a link to a website I used have a look at quite regularly being a good source of A/V information:
