Read the PowerMax+ status

Hi.
A newbie question.
I want to read the status of my PowerMax+ alarm from my homecontrol system. I have tried to decode the TTL pulse train from the X10 output without success. Is there a known good way to do this.
I know i can use a XM10 controller on the powermax to send activation / deactivation codes to the powernet and read theese commends with a CM11, but i do not trust this method.
I would like to read it with the Serial interface directly or x10 interface directly...
What all others do ?
I know i can read the keyforb with the RXCom device, but then i would not get updated status if the alarm is deactivated on the panel.
Thanks for any advice.
Best regards
