Sensing smell

Hi.

I am monitoring temperature and humidity on my bathroom, and uses these parameters on controlling the fan.

Have anyone found any sensor that could be used for sensing odor?
I would be a neat trick to switch on the fan when the toilet have been used... :-)

Any ideas ?

Thanks
Best regards

Nice feature [:D][:D][:D]
I don't know about any sensors which are intelligent enough?
But what you could do is install an extra sensor which can see if you flushed the toilet. It's not that precise regarding smell but will do.

BTW: do you have a fan with multiple speeds? how are you controlling this?

My ventilation system comes with a three step switch that i have replaced with a relay module. This controls the amount of air flow in the system.

I can also adjust the amount of air in one room by controlling a valve on the air pipe.

Works great.

I can by adjusting speed and air amount choose how quickly i want to replace the air in the bathroom based on sensors like temprature and humidity.

Here is where the smell/odor sensor comes in.
I guess a particle sensor or a gas sensor could also be at thing i could try.

I am still browsing for sensors, that is not to expensive for just to play around with.
