Digital Code Lock

Last Friday a Digital Code Lock arrived. I want to see if i can do something useful with it. It is intended for use with a door opener.
Above the keypad there are 3 LEDs of which 2 are freely usable; the 3rd (middle) bi-color LED shows the status of the code lock. One of the freely usable LED is going to be used to display the status of my Visonic alarm. The code lock comes with a manual with description of all connections and some connection examples.

Robert,
This looks interesting.
I'm also looking for something like this for front door control.

Where did you buy it?

It's one of the cheaper code locks, but if all goes well and i'm satisfied i might buy another more eye-catching one :)

Interesting also the price.
I will wait for your review.

I'm not sure how the security works...If you break the code lock and connect the two wires my door will open..

The model i have here has a sabotage switch inside just like the tamper switch on the inside of Visonic sensors.
Connect this switch to a Visonic MCT302 aux input located inside your house (what i am planning on doing) and you'll hear very clearly when someone tries to open the box.
Besides that you'll still have to disarm the alarm when you're in.

Okay this means just power off the Loxx Remote control when the sabotage switch is turned on..

I read somewere that if you connect a joystick input (a free plugin on the updater) to the codelock (so every number uses one input) you can make a nice code system: not only the number must be right but also the time you press each number matters. So only if you press the right number in the right rythem (eg a song) the door would open. It's on my to do list (long list).

In the past (before I knew the word Domotica) I started a project with RFID for door access. To implement this I have something just like this L http://www.conrad.nl/goto.php?artikel=191279
In this way you only have to add a tag to your keys like this: http://www.conrad.nl/goto.php?artikel=191034.
Because it is only the antenna that is outside, it can not be hacked by connecting any wires that are outside of your house. Any reason why you would prefer a codelock?

In my case, I wasn't able to make a nice solution for the door lock itself, but by now I have more knowledge of what solutions are available (Loxx kind of stuff) so I will implement this in the future either for alarm or for door-opening sequences. Nice thing is that you can also give an ID tag to e.g. your housemaid if applicable and set the access only to restricted hours.

But to be able to better compare the possibilities myself, the real question for here was: why prefer a codelock?

Simple: I didn't choose between the 2; I didn't consider RFID so I cannot talk about preference.
I saw the code lock in an advertorial, this triggered the buy cause it was high on my list once. It has dropped a few places over the years but i thought it would be a nice thing to play with. So the decision wasn't preceded by a 'what is best' question, it was purely impulsive.
I especially like the extra 2 LEDs that can be used for own purposes.

:) Ha nice to be remembered again that there are enough gadget sensitive people around this forum.
By now I have seen you do a lot of different and experimental stuff on Domotica and I must say it is really inspiring. So I wiss you good luck with this and will surely keep reading this topic.

Last days I have think about how to use this device secure and easy for my front door Loxx control.
This can be done with Visonic MCT302 and a virtual device + two events.

I'm going to order one and test it.

Price is dropped to 29,99
