Can I mix Marmitek, S10 and Xanura devices?

Post by DJF3 »

Hi,

Can I mix Marmitek, S10 and Xanura devices? The remote controls from Marmitek are a lot cheaper than the Xanura models (same?)

-Are there disadvantages doing this?
-Do applications see the differences between Xanura and Marmitek/S10?

From what I heard Xanura offers 2-way X10 which means you can monitor light status (i.e. you always know if a light is turned on or off).

-Is that only possible with Xanura or are there ways to do this with Marmitek / S10 as well?

Thankyou!

Xanura is one of the powerline protocols thats build upon X10 but has more improvements. For instance they have

* Standard 2-way communications
* Xanura sends at 5 volt peak (Vpp) where as X10 uses 3 volt peak (Vpp)
* Receiver sensitivity is still valid at 25mV as to X10 100mV
* Signal/noise ratio is 1.35:1 compared to again X10 2:1
* Noise influence is much lower too.

You can mix marmitek with xanura though, that is no real issue. But you wont have the added benefit of xanura, althoug i use both at this moment.

Applications dont really see differences between a xanura or marmitek signal. Depends on the home automation software.

You should really check some more forum links/pages because there is a lot to find.

The (just as expensive) Marmitek micromodules do this too, but in fact these appear to be the same or at least extremely similar to the Xanura modules. None of the S10 modules have this functionality.
