computer standby and cm11

Post by chrispazz »

Hello!

I have an HTPC that currently i am using only for entertainment. So this pc is ON only during presence in home. When I am not using it, it is in standby (S3) mode to reduce power consumption and to have full silence in living room.

With X10 software I am using a CM11 connected to windows PC using a RS232 to USB adapter.

Is there any way to wake up computer from standby when CM11 receive X10 events on power line?

Thank you
Chris

You can use a X10 device to turn the computer on/off :-)

I know wake up on lan.. perhaps infrared? the bios normally shows which "wake up" items are allowed to wake up the pc. In my pc i think i can remember that it will wake up on "com port" "keyboard" "network" as options. Simply select the comport. Try and see if that works.

p.s. i see you have the usb hope that works too, check the bios.

Thank you snelvuur.

I little more details:

I have an SC9000. I wish to start my HTPC when entering home, so when an X10 signal is fired when disarming alarm (B1).

I don't think that HS is able to wake up a pc in standby to monitor events so the only way I see is to have CM11 wake up the pc but it seems impossible.

I cannot plug the computer on a standard Appliance module since it have to be in standby and not shutted off because it has timers to record TV.....

any idea?

Chris

PS in BIOS I have all events set to wake up but it seems not to listen to USB port where cm11 is connected.....

could it be you need special software from the bios, in order to allow it to go out of standby? Meaning, doesn't windows need extra drivers to detect the changes?

You say standby, but what do you refer as standby? A sleep mode is something else, and even if i put my machines on standby, they always wake up because of hard disk activity.

In the case of "too much money to spend" you can buy a pronto tsu9600, with a rfx9600 extender (which has a relais contact) which you could place between the button of the pc. Only problem is, you still have to operate the remote first. Maybe others have an idea.

You can use the Marmitek UM7206 to trigger by the SC9000 and let it switch your reset switch of your computer.

Not sure if cm11 can do this...but most of the computers have the option wakeup on...modem or com..
I think the Sc9000 can give the signal...via modem or just use the UM7206 what Peterpc is suggesting...only conect UM7206 to the standby switch.

Yes, the CM11/12 does this; it's connected to the serial port via ground, transmit, receive and ring indicate which will wake up the computer if the CM11/12 has incoming data. It will need to be enabled in the BIOS and the OS will probably need to support it (Linux does mine from an S3 state quite happily).

However, I wouldn't trust the CM11/12 with any stored macro, so I'd set up the CMOS to wake the computer at a certain time and then send to the CM12...

Cheers, Steve
