A smart meter collects your data about energy consumption. The data is stored somewhere else (why not read it out at home?)
Now your data is 20,- worth...

The way I read it, you have to pay them 20 euro per year to be able to use their webinterface.

Yes correct, but they earn 20,- with your data meaning that your data is atleast worth 20,- if you sell it.

Surprise that the network provider will supply meter data to an external company (of course with permission of the customer) - not sure if this is true and at what cost !!
If this is possible, the customer should received this data too ..... and can have its own application software to process the data and saving € 20

The network provider will only provide other company's with the customers consent.
