How waterproof is the MS13 motion sensor?

Want to use one outside for my garden but it will get tons of rain right on top of it..

How save is that? Manual and FAQ say "Splash" waterproof.

not save! you can only hang it on a place where it gets no direct rain. It will then last a couple of years!
You can also use some kit to close it more.

just drink a bottle of coke, cut it in half and put the ms13 in it.. dont know if that works, but it sounds like a shot to try perhaps.

Ok, thanks! I might build something out of wood that covers it from the direct rain, leaving some space open to 'view' motion and light

The MS13 is not water-proof at all, but it is rather easy to make it at least rain-prof.
The back-side is the worst part. Mount it against some thick rubber, so that it gets a good seal, add some glue or other sealant at the sides where the casing is curved.
Apply plenty of glue under the antenna rubber-inlet to make a seal between casing and rubber. Then lift up the antenna "straw" and drop some glue in the rubber fitting, attach the straw again.
Apply glue around the edges of the motion detector, do it neatly if you don't mind the detection-area being limited.
Finally, ad a large drop of glue on the LED.
And then you are done! (Since the battery/control lid for some strange reason already has a silicon gasket!)

If you apply the glue/silicon or whatever your sealant of choice is then the end-result should be rather good-looking and safe from the forces of nature for a few years, depending on how well your sealant ages.

Another solution would off cause be to dissasseble the MS13 and put the motion-detection lens in a waterproof housing, but that on the other end of the ambition-scale from the coke-bottle.

The MS13 is waterproof. Without any special treathing I have a MS13 in my garden for 5 years now. It is still working perfect. Had to replace the batteries today after about 2 years. It is placed in the middle of my garden without any shelter for rain and snow!!
Even the user manual inside is still readable.

the amount of dirt in front of it would imagine you have less "movement" detection.

I have different experience with a standard MS13, I have to change the batteries at least every year otherwise the signal get really low and I use the best cells.
After a year outside the battery compartment has a lot of oxidation and rost.

Btw, my UV sensor from oregon, is not total weather proof. I wondered why i didn't get any readings anymore. I just placed it on my roof, but because of winds and all it was blown to a pool of water on the roof. So my display has a nice water bubble in it now ;( I dont think it will revive after i dried it up but you never know.

I use the MS13 to detect motion at my pond. So it is triggering daily with the birds and other anymals near the water.
