Receiving repeated packets in RFXtrx433

When a KlikAanKlikUit wall switch button is being held down it probably keeps sending RF signals until the button is released. It would be nice if a software application that reads from the RFXtrx433 would be able to receive all packets for these repeated RF signals from the wall switch. Using that information the software can support a variety different of responses depending on how the wall switch is used. I can think of responding to "single clicks", "double clicks" and "holding down" of the KlikAanKlikUit buttons in different ways.
I understand that earlier versions of the RFX... devices supported repeated packets. However, I also understand that the RFXtrx433 will not be able to support this functionality. My question would be, is this a hardware or firmware limitation? Also, if it is a hardware limitation, are the previous versions of the RFX... devices still available or are there any alternative devices with this functionality available?
