This looks like a nice device for detecting lightning and thunder
it has 3 way open collector, runs low on energy and has a 40km range and only 28 euro's

i have been looking for a device like this for along time, there are a lot but not with an interface like this!
any simple other options?

another option is a lightning detector from boltek.
they reach 1500 km

yes i have seen that some years ago, then it was very complicated regarding antenna's etc.
but now they have a lot of new simpler options as well
checking it out....
