Looks very good, everytime I think I need to get started with linux. The posibilties descibed below by @tuson making use of a a very low power server are great!

The server is a very low power Bubba server purchased from Excito. It runs at 300MHz, has 64Mbyes of memory and a 350GByte disk - most importantly it consumes less than 10Watts of power and can therefore be left on permanently. It runs Debian Linux and provides a range of services. From the automation perspective it provides the Apache web server and hosts a number of software applications. The following are the applications that we have loaded.

Software Applications
HEYU: Heyu is a text-based console program for remotely controlling lights and appliances in the home or office. It is made available under a free and open source license. Heyu uses the computer interface module to send and receive X-10 control signals over the power line.

x10events: x10events is part of the X10 Ephem library of utilities. It parses crontab files and updates the time fields to track sun events given instructions in the comments. Combined with an X-10 interface like HEYU this allows the scheduling of events that follow the changing seasons and Daylight Saving Time automatically.

ntpdate: sets the local date and time by polling the Network Time Protocol server(s) and is run at scheduled intervals to maintain the accuracy of the server clock. This ensures that crontab events being managed by x10events are accurate. Note that this program is due to be retired in favour of ntpd.

Bluelava: BlueLava is a CGI script that uses various commandline X-10 utilities, such as HEYU, to control X-10 devices. BlueLava was created to control devices remotely through a web browser, there is also basic WAP support. This enables the handheld computer to be used as a remote control for the automation system.

The latest version is with 128mb memory.
in few weeks there will be a new model with more CPU power and 2x Gigabit network, dual disk support.
