PMIX35 and USB extender

Post by Herbus »

To place the PMIX35 interface in the transformer substation (meterkast) I ordered the Aten UCE60 USB extender.
http://www.aten.com/products/productIte ... 0416193009
With this extender I should be possible to extend USB over CAT5/5e or 6 up to 60 meters.
But..... after connection it loses connection in a couple of minutes. Tried different distances and UTP cables (6-20 meters). Nothing helps. The UCE60 is USB1.1 compliant.

Does anybody has experiences with this device in combination with a PMIX35?
What USB does the PMIX35 use?
Is it possible to ajust the communication speed?

PMIX35 and USB extender

Hi Jos,
That sucks, with the Belkin network hub there are some reports to of loosing the connection to the PMIX35, while for others it's working good.
Did you try the Belkin before, or any particular reason to choose this solution.
I think the baudrate can only be set at 19200.

Pieter,
I did try this solution because I thought that a point to point connection (no router, hub or switch involved) would be more reliable. It was easy to make a cat 5 connection (patch panel and outlet free). But it seems to be not that reliable. Consider to send it back and order a Belkin.

I agree, your solution would not require some additional software, I'm I right?
On the other hand there is not much tuning you can do to make it work I think.....
The Belkin you can use for all other USB devices as well.
So if you can send it back......

Jos I have two USB extenders.
If you like you can test them.
this are passive extenders with cat5 between them

something like this one

Enver, thanks for the offer, I will give it a final try tomorrow. If it keeps dropping connection I will send mine back and deside what will be the next step. It could be the Belkin or another test with your extenders. Did you ever use them with the PMIX?

I tried the PMIX35 on an Belkin extender and it was no fun.....
Hard to get a stable connection and it also had a hard time restarting after a power failure or reboot.
