Unforgivable! Plugwise stealing data !!!

I doubt if it's legal: End Users License Agreements are worthless without your signature under it. Ticking a checkbox or breaking a seal is not enough to confirm you agreeing. Besides that, they specifically state this information not to be traceble to a specific user or house hold. Finally it is prohibited by law to gather information on people. What they do can never be in line with "de Wet Bescherming Persoonsgegevens" as they state.

I'm sure the guys of the Electronic Frontier Foundation will be more than interested in this: http://www.eff.org/

I wonder if it's legal.
Here's what their Privacy statement says:

So their software does not comply with their own Privacy Statement.
Now what do you have to believe? Instead of being clear about this important issue they are being very fuzzy; fuzzy enough to fool 95% of all Plugwise users with the little checkbox.
I still consider this a critical bug and want the Source to comply to the Privacy statement.

I've tried to get in contact by phone this afternoon, but nobody was available.

To be continued...

I have to agree with MindBender, a EULA doesn't mean much in the Netherlands. On top of that the data looks pretty personal to me. And indeed they are doing what we weren't sure we wanted the energy companies to do either. Good thing our own way of controlling these devices is on its way. I'd be well pissed off like Digit if I had Plugwise and found out I just bought a snooping or marketing device.

Even if it was legal, looking at the amount of data collected it should have been stated very clearly that they were doing this... Something they clearly didn't seeing all the reactions here.

wifi: would be nicer if you just create your own "portal" and create a keygen for the software. and then point the portal to a ip adres of somebody's fake server (our creation) to circumvent the whole deal..

Now that would be illegal :-)

Plugwise doesn't have a real forum. Just a FAQ using a forum-engine. That's probably why you can't register.
