Plugwise Touchscreen Control proof of concept

Post by petermdevries »

After playing a while with my Plugwise set and thinking about the opportunities it brings with it for automating my home, I got the idea to use my old HTC phone (which has a touchscreen, wifi and internet explorer) as a touchscreen interface for my Plugwise set.

So a new proof of concept was born. I wanted to achieve a few things:

1. Easily see the actual power consumption
2. Switch light(groups) from the touchscreen
3. Implement a present/away/sleep state

I used the built in Plugwise template engine to build an interface which is running fine now for a couple of days. The code is not the most beautiful program, but it still is a proof of concept ;)

I've "designed" it to use on a 320x240 screen (so on my Windows mobile phone it is now shown in internet explorer in full screen mode in landscape orientation).

Some screenshots:

For those interested to play with this this as well I've attached the files to this posting. Just unpack them to the folder c:\Program Files\Plugwise\Plugwise Source\www\mobile and access it via http://<your server>/mobile/index.html

I am using some naming conventions for group names:

The Aanwezig/Afwezig/Slapen buttons use the groups _Status_<Aanwezig/Afwezig/Slapen>_<Aan/Uit to turn on/off devices when pressing the button. So for example when pressing the Afwezig button, all devices in group _Status_Afwezig_Aan will be turned on and all devices in group _Status_Afwezig_Uit will be turned off.

For the room menus I use the namingconvention _<Room>_<Buttonname>. So for the lights in my livingroom I have _Woonkamer_Verlichting which results in the Verlichting item with an AAN/UIT button to turn on/off the devices.

I am not actively using it myself anymore. I bought a new touchscreen (MIMO 740) and I am know playing with HSTouch to get the same information available.

I've added the latest version that I have. I am not for sure what exactly changed in this version. One thing I can remember is that on the "home page" all devices that are member of the group _Status_Algemeen are shown when they use >8 Watt. I used this to see whether the washingmachine was running (get some credits from my wife ;) and my PC was turned on etc.

Furthermore I had some problems with the latest version of Source as the sorting mechanism in the Top 10 screen isn't working correctly. I talked to a developer from Plugwise and confirmed this is a bug in Source.

Hi Peter (and rest),

I solved some issues and expanded the rooms page wich total per room.

See attachment.

Are you ok, if Plugwise include this mobiel app in the setup?

Reinder,

I don't see any attachment. Forgot to attach it?

Feel free to include it in the setup.

@Reinder

Is the Top 10 function working on your system?
I believe that it stopped working after I upgraded to Source v2.xx, and now I am at Source 20091028.0 it is still not working.

The Top... isn't working as it should be. I think it has someting to do with the html..
I have someone take a look. Although, Source 2.1 is to be release soon (before the end of this year I've heard) and there will be a new function for the top...
