question about the RFXCOM transmitter & Harrison rails

Post by I-1 »

Hi,

I am in the stage of ordering stuff to make my curtains automatically open and close.

I figured out that I need the following:
- 433.92MHz RFXmitter
- Harrison rails
- Homeseer2

Now I am wondering if I can also control other devices with the 433.92MHz RFXmitter or is this only used for the Harrison rails and if I have another RF device that I want to control I need to buy a new 433.92MHz RFXmitter?

Also can someone explain me how this is going to work?
I have the following perception:
- Harrison rails connects with RF to the RFXmitter
- The RFXmitter is connected to LAN/WLAN/USB
- The Homeseer software is on the same LAN segment as the RFXmitter and is able to see the device(s) the RFXmitter is controlling

Is this correct?

Thanks for the answers ...

The same RFXmitter can contol all devices:
X10 lighting,
X10 security,
Digimax RTS10,
KlikAanKlikUit,
Chacon,
ELRO AB600,
DomiaLite,
ByeByeStandBy,
NEXA,
Proove,
Intertechno,
Dwi,
Harrison electrical curtain,
HomeEasy UK,
HomeEasy EU,
Ikea Koppla,
Flamingo,
ATI Remote,
Robocam/Ninja.

You need only 1 RFXmitter for all devices but they have to be in range.

If you go for the LAN interface then order a 2 port version. This interface can have also the 433.92 receiver installed (now or later)

It operates the way you think.

thanks for your answer.

Is the normal rfxtransmitter also working together with homeseer?
Or do I really need the rfxmitter with the plugin?

Hi,

I have a similiar setup and at this moment decided to no buy the plugin for homeseer. I think the plugin is great value for money (especially if you know were it going to) but in my situation, just curtains, it is a bit overkill.

I did 3 things:
1. Created some very small and straight forward scripts that make it possible to open and close the curtains from Homeseer
2. I prommissed my self that I will spend some time on the scripts to enhance the possibilities and get rid of the quick and dirty (this was 1 year ago :) )
3. I also prommised my self to buy a RFxcom receiver for weather related readings and I will then buy the plugin because it then shows it's real value.

My 5 ct's

The standard 433.92MHz transmitter can be used but lacks the HomeEasy EU protocol and is not as fast as the RFXmitter.

Don't worry, you'll end up spending way more once you've played with the RFXcom possibilities. I started with a 3 unit Homeeasy starterpack (18,95 euro), and now (last count) I have 84 input, 65 output and 15 security devices and a few specialy devices I made myself. Today I received my Harrison and I hope my IRtrans IR interface arrives tonight [:D]. So just take the plunge, get the stuff and tell your wife/girlfriend that steak will be off the menu for the rest of the year [;)]

Just a heads up: make sure you can transport the Harrison rail into your house (taking into account doorways, curves etc.) They're in one piece and cannot be bend or disassembled. Gave me quite a headache today.......
