DMX moodlight panel

Post by Lennart »

But be careful:

These are not the Traxon moodlight panels as mentioned in http://www.domoticaforum.eu/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=313. Given its power consumption, this panel must be less bright than the Traxon version (9,6 Watt versus 15 Watt).

Note that Traxon is a well known supplier of quality LED lighting, whereas I've never heard of ELD before (and their products look very familiar as in Chinese OEM-stuff relabeled to whatever brand you want).

On the other hand, this one has a remote control and some chases / programs built in. There's no remote control included with the Traxon DMX version (only with the RF and IR versions).

I'm wondering how these work: control the individual colors with DMX-addresses and one additional DMX address for program selection (to be used if individual color control is not needed/wanted)? (This is the way many LED-tubes work.) Or would there be a switch on the panel that says either "DMX control" or "Remote control"?

I think i'll get a set next month to try out. The "example" pictures look nice, i know the person that sells these and he told me that there easy to control and looks nice too. (ofcourse every sales person will tell you this, but he's an online person too) if i get this, and i will at some point. I will keep everyone up to date.

I see :

Einde aanbieding: 30-11-2007
Nog 5 dagen resterend

I also don't see the traxon panels for sale anymore at Bax Light & Sound shop

also, if you have multiple panels, I assume that you need to build/get your own single 12V power supply (I assume that each panel comes with a small 'wall-wart' ?)

Try http://www.barndoor.nl/moodlight.html for a Dutch Traxon supplier. The classic DMX panel is EUR 290 ex. VAT (BTW).

Hi Snelvuur,

Yes, odds are that this interface is different from the Enttec USB Pro interface, as far as the serial protocol between PC and USB interface is concerned. Note that, of course, both devices "speak" DMX, so on the DMX cable the protocol is the same, but there is unfortunately no standard for the communication between PC and DMX controller, except that it uses USB/RS232.

The nice thing about the Enttec controller is that this part of the communication is quite simple and resembles the DMX protocol itself. I don't know the DMX controller in your posting, so I wouldn't know how different/difficult it would be, but don't expect to run my script "out of the box".

I connected 4 panels to one of these

http://www.lanbox.com/products/LCEDataSheet.html

The nice thing about the lanbox is, that it can work 'stand alone'.

I.e. you define some cuelists, that can contain animations, (cross)fades, chases etc.
and then you can simply start a cue via ethernet tcp/ip (I use girder).

So, you don't need to animate each channel over time (although, you can)

for example, I made a simple cuelist that slowly brightens the panels from 'off' to 'full on white' in 15 minutes, to replicate this :

http://www.wakeuplight.philips.com

note that these are the same panels :

http://www.hqpower.com/product/view/?lang=en&id=368110

or (not 100% the same)

http://www.chauvetlighting.com/fixtures ... _fix.shtml

note that I've seen versions :
-with/without microphone
-with/without dmx address dipswitches/DMX adress LED display

@marcel, did you import those dmx panels? Seems like you have some different ones too. These have a grey surrounding, while the ones from plsshop is white (http://www.plsshop.nl/detail.asp?pid=ELDML001&cat=251) and the ones from the link of lennart (http://www.barndoor.nl/moodlight.html) are black surrounding.

Also, did you import the lanbox? Since my problem with having dmx was because you have to place the cable through the house, which is not so real handy to do.

Hi Erik and Marcel,

Just a note: the classic Traxon moodlight panels that I have (as sold by barndoor) have a grey aluminium frame, not black.

Furthermore: the Lanbox-LCE seems to be *very* interesting, especially as it can be used stand-alone (using TCP/IP to change programs if you like) as well as controlled directly with a DMX over Ethernet (using UDP) signal. I'm ready to order one :-). I just noted the very steep shipping costs: 45 euros for a parcel within the Netherlands? Marcel, did you have to pay this?

If you have the Lanbox, the following device - Solarox DMX RGB stripe controller - is quite interesting as well, if you also happen to like LED strip lighting:

http://www.led1.de/shop/product_info.ph ... arox-p-507

Gamma had some Philips LED strips on offer, a few weeks ago. I bought one RGB version to play around with. I cut off the Philips (braindead) controller+cable and connected the strip to the Solarox, using the Philips power supply. It works pretty well :-).
