Smart way to setup device codes.

Anybody that has a smart idea about how to setup your device codes.

Do you do it just random, or is there a system.

I use X-10 modules and KAKU and used to use a housecode per room.
So livingroom was A, dinningroom B, outdoor D. Now I'm thinking that it's maybe smarter to sort by type of control.
