Aeon lab Z-stick communicate with 2-gang CONNECT radio push
Hello,
I am programming with the z-wave technology but I have a small problem so maybe there is somebody to help me out.
I can add a 2-gang CONNECT radio push from merten (which is battery powered) to my z-wave network with the Aeon lab z-stick as the controller.
When I push the radio button from merten, I want to know what kind of signal comes thru my serial port connection with the z-stick. When I monitor that with a Serial port monitor, I see that there is no incomming signal.
When I do the same thing but then with a zdm230(which is powered with line voltage) instead of the radio button from merten , I do receive a signal thru my serial port communication.
So my question is : Is my problem created because the radio push button is from merten ? So yes, which battery powered push button I have to buy that doesn't have this problem.
So no , Is my problem created because battery powered devices work on an other way than non battery powered devices?
Thanks for your help ,
Niek,

Hi Niek,
I think the buttons as you must put in programming mode. By 3x rapid succession on the merten button pressing LED will blink. Wait until the LED stays full. At this point, you can read the e.e.a..
Is this primarily to blink, but full of burning, then you will just have to reset the button. Do this by activating the programming mode (3x rapid succession pressing the button) and then the button about 5 seconds hold. Then you see the LED from red to green, and it is reset.
Good luck

Aeon lab Z-stick communicate with 2-gang CONNECT radio push
hello big carp,
Thanks for your response, but unfortunately this is not my problem.
I currently work with Ztool and I have some ztool merten button added to mn network. That's just what it achieved. Now that is attached to my network, it is likely that if you press that button that a signal must be received by my Aeon Labs z-stick. This after I gechekt by using the serial port to see what comes and then, if nothing arrives. Could it be that the buttons of a Merten switch only to configure the software with Merten?
Best regards,
Niek

Aeon lab Z-stick communicate with 2-gang CONNECT radio push
Hi beatboxer05,
You have installed a 2-gang CONNECT radio push with a 2-gang receiver?
Can you tell me how to do this, because I have some problems to install those two together with my lights in the living.
I have also a Aeon lab z-stick as controller, but he does work. I am waiting for an new one. After that I will come back to your topic.
Perhaps you send me a email at: wim2009 at kpnmail punt nl.
Thanks.

Hi beatboxer05,
I have a working Aeon stick with some Duewi and Merten devices on it.
A 2-gang switch is for me unpossible to connect with the Aeon stick.
I have for some time a USB stick from Merten and there I can conncet the 2-gang switch in my room.
Is it possible to transfer this information from Merten software to the Homeseer software?

Re: Aeon lab Z-stick communicate with 2-gang CONNECT radio push
Hi,
As I understand the problem then the key presses on the Merten does not show up on the serial port for the Aeon-Labs USB stick? And that it works with the Merten stick?
I know that battery operated Z-Wave remotes originally only supported operating other Z-Wave nodes - they did not send anything over the serial port as the protocol didn't support it.
Products like the Innovus SmoothRemote has a 'non-standardized' feature to support sending key presses to a master. As I understand it then this has now been standardized with the ACC command class - new remotes that do support this command class now has a way to provide the key press information to the master.
I have been told that Merten has some 'non-standardized' features. The ability to register key presses from battery operated devices might be one of them and it might require the Merten USB stick. But I 'm just speculating.
I hope that this might explain, why you are having these problems, but I know that it isn't a solution.
BR,
Henrik

Re: Aeon lab Z-stick communicate with 2-gang CONNECT radio push
Today I got an explanation from Merten.
If you have read in some devices in Merten software, it is inpossible to read the same devices in another system.
If the data from the software will be to transfer, is still the question.
But I will get a phone call from the German people to help me in a few days.
I'm very curious what the solution will be.

Re: Aeon lab Z-stick communicate with 2-gang CONNECT radio push
Hello,
I have the 2-gang CONNECT radio push from merten.
This is a switch with two buttons on it.
I added this switch to the homeseer software via the Aeon Labs Z-stick
After the adding procedure, homeseer will only show a signal when I push on the left button on the switch. Homeseer shows a message with on or off when i push the left button. The problem is that this also has to happen with the right button of the switch, but at the moment I can't get this right button configured.
Does somebody know how to solve this problem ?
Kind regards,
Niek

Hi Niek,
I had the same problem, but you can't configure the switch with the Aeon z-stick.
The second or right button is only to configured with the USB dongel from Merten.

I find this hard to believe. These devices are Z-Wave, which means it can be "programmed" from other z-wave vendors. If however your device is included in another network, then it's not controllable from the aeon stick.
Is there someone with different experience? In other words --> is succesfully merten stuff from homeseer using the aeon stick?

Re: Aeon lab Z-stick communicate with 2-gang CONNECT radio push
Some Merten CONNECT devices have special features that can be available only if you use Merten Configuration Utility (Merten USB interface). The people from Merten told me that. One of those devices is the 2-gang CONNECT radio push. It isn't possible to programm the second switch without Merten Configuration.
This USB interface from Merten has to be used ONLY for CONNECT network configuration and can not be used with HS or another PC based software.
The next message is coming from the forum of Homeseer:
You can define one of the Merten Push buttons as a MASTER controller(so all networks data will be stored in this unit). The Master contrller is a device that contains a description of the zwave network and is used for: Inclusion = adding new devices, exclusion = removing devices, association = creating links between 2 or more devices and replication = receiving and transferring netwerk information. Other functions depending upon model of controller.
If you have programmed the master, you don't need the USB interface anymore, till you want to change something in the Merten network.
If you have Merten CONNECT devices without special features, you can read them directly with the Aeon z-stick in Homeseer.

Re: Aeon lab Z-stick communicate with 2-gang CONNECT radio push
This means that the whole idea behind Z-Wave, in terms of compatibility and mixing units from different vendors does not apply in all cases.
Do I understand correctly that it's not possible to push the button 3 times and associate the second button with another Z-wave unit?
