Hi,
After some checking on the net it seems that the Aeon Z-Wave stick uses "USB to serial" to make itself available as virtual serial port under Linux.
So I was wondering if it would be possible to plug a stick in a device like the QNAP Nas (or other linux nas / router with usb etc).
Plugging it in is not a problem of course and I know Vera 1 is a Asus WL-500 with Aeon z-wave stick.
However, the question is, does it actually show up as serial port on a QNAP etc. so I could then use PHP to talk to the stick or would it require special drivers?
Or did anyone here tried a generic WL500 with the AEON stick to see how it shows up under openwrt and if additional drivers are needed?

Re: Z-Wave stick and Linux
THE Linux driver sourcepakket is available so you could try to cross compile. It is on my todo list to cross compile for synology. But this only be usefull if you have à zwave layer. Open zwave (http://code.google.com/p/open-zwave/) sounds interesting, but on their wiki no info is available which devices are supported. So before i would put any effort in cross compiling i would toy around on a normal Linux platform witheet open zwave.
Currently i use Vera as a layer to talk to my zwave devices. But it is getting the limmiting factor in my project (i want to store additional data with my devices and the communication layer is way to verbose, i am solving both with lua coding).
But both previous steps are after i have both an android and an ios gui interface to controle my house.
If you try to crosscompile the driver or open zwave and have any result please post them, i am very interested.
(forgive al my typos i am using my iPad to post but its constantly 'improving' what i am typing, i just love THE apple experience not!!)

Re: Z-Wave stick and Linux
Henrik from digiwave.dk use Debian on all sorts of devices with the Aeon stick.
The driver is bulid in Debian.
I know there is a Debian for QNAP someware. I thought of trying it ones, but never got around to it.
Maybe you can get help on the digiwave forum.
Regards
Morten
