New Energy Saving Z-Wave Thermostat from Danfoss

Post by EzHome »

A new 'Living by Danfoss' series of wireless, Z-Wave, smart home products includes this radiator thermostat. With claimed energy savings of up to 23% the system allows you to control the all the radiators around your home from a central display and control unit.

"Copenhagen – Z-Wave Alliance member Danfoss, manufacturer of refrigeration and heating technology, will soon be launching its new living by Danfoss series. It among others consists of an electronic radiator thermostat based on Z-Wave wireless technology. It allows location-independent remote regulation of radiators temperature in houses via one central display. Home owners and tenants thereby always have an overview of and control over their temperature settings, which allows energy and associated cost savings to be made.

Heating elements remain the largest consumers of energy in Germany. The development of the living by Danfoss series is based on feedback from consumers throughout Europe, with their responses being almost uniform in nature: a large majority placed considerable value on heating controls offering a high level of convenience and comfort while at the same time saving energy costs. The electronic radiator thermostats from the living by Danfoss series provide help in this respect as the Aachen University study showed that replacing an “old” radiator thermostat with an electronic Danfoss radiator thermostat enables energy savings of 23 percent to be made.

Individual room temperature - Danfoss Z-Wave thermostats give users the opportunity to define heating intervals. Domestic residences are thus only heated when required. The temperature can be set individually for each room – for example a living room can remain warm during the day whereas a bedroom can be heated to a pleasant temperature just prior to bedtime. The Z-Wave chips integrated into the living connect thermostats also allow these devices to be included in home control networks other than Danfoss networks, as they can communicate with Z-Wave compatible devices from other manufacturers including those that are Internet and smart phone enabled.

Looks very nice!

Question: the "old" Danfoss RA-PLUS only have a day-/night setting. Are these new thermostats more refined in the sense that you can set them at any temperature, such as anywhere between 17 and 20 degrees?

It looks pricey but ist isn't at all, the radiator thermostats will be about the same as the RA-Plus-W, the sensor about €50,- and the touchscreen is not known at this moment....

Before you buy (like i did with the previous CF2 system) make sure that it is not a closed system.
The old CF2 system also runs on zwave but it is closed and cannot be controlled by a thirt-party controller.
