Experience with dealextreme's android based tablest

Hi Guys,

I once had the idea of creating an HTML5 interface for my iPad and creating a frame so I could mount the iPad on the wall. The iPad unfortunately is in use for so much more than only the domotica stuff (games, twitter, browsing, etc). The idea came up to buy a cheap HTML5 capable device which I could put on the wall and the iPad for our couch-surfing sessions

So I searched the web and started at dealextreme. I immediately found a lot of tablets, of which the following was very nice:

Does anyone have experience with this one, or other cheap android tablets?

I have bought a SmartQ V7 from dealextreme but i found it so be a waste of money.

A colleague of mine has a Archos tablet http://www.archos.com/ and these are really nice things. I played with it and really are convinced of buying 1 for myself, 1 for the wife and 1 for HA controlling.

I was also looking for an tablet pc, the archos 70b is a nice alternative for 130 euro.
I found one which looks like the dealextreme one, but with android 2.2 (flash support) and multitouch capacitive screen for only 199 euro

This looks more usable, despite the smaller 7" screen.

Had a smartv7 as well... the resistive touch is a dealbreaker for me these days.
With cheap tablets you have little memory, old android version and resistive touch.
Ive had my archos101 for 3 weeks now and cant go without it anymore. It replaced my main controll in the living room and my couch computing needs as well..

Then again it hws the same drawback as the ipad... its to good to nail to the wall...


I guess if you are gonna put it on a wall and dont mind actually pressing the screen a cheap tablet should work ok. Allthough i do wonder how html5 capable its browser wil be.

The Android tablets seem to be Android 2.2. The same version as on my phone. These support HTML 5 as far as I need it to support I guess ... my current HTML 5 interface works on it (including swipe actions and application cache).

Gonna think about it ... main problem is the resistive touch .. if ever this tablet would be fetched of the wall and be used for other things this is a major drawback.
