Z-wave HVAC? Will it happen in 2011?

Post by pvdspek »

Hi,

Since the first announcements of Z-Wave devices many years ago, manufacturers have always mentioned full control of HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and AirConditioning) as one of the systems key features. What wonders me though, is that after all these years no actual products whatsoever have been released to keep this promise.
Sure, in the US a couple of thermostats have been introduced and even for the rest of the world Danfoss has introduced the RA-Plus and living connect radiator controls, but this was no more than a crippled solution, since no boiler or air conditioning system could be controlled and 3rd party access was limited.

Now there's the Horstmann HRT4-ZW, Europe's first Z-wave thermostat that can actually control your boiler, but what about floor heating and air conditioning? And how compatible is it when connected to a controller?
The new Danfoss Link (HS) system looks great and can do floor heating, but just like it's predecessor the CF-2 system, it's a closed system again :-(
After years of waiting and hoping (you can read back my previous postings starting back in 2009) I have to say I've become a bit disappointed...

Could anyone give me some advice on how to control a (hydronic) floorheating system, boiler and air conditioning unit by Z-wave?
And no, I'm not looking for custom made circuit boards with diy programming :-)

Thanks!
Pepijn
