Do Fibaro devices keep last status after a power outage?

Parameter no. 16 - Saving the state of the device after a power failure. Fibaro Switch returns to the last position saved before a power failure.
default value 0
Options for changing the parameter 0-1
0 - Fibaro Switch does not save the state after a power failure, it returns to "off" position
1 - Fibaro Switch saves its state before power failure

For the dimmer you need a spacial switch so that you can dim the lights....the same one used for the Xanura line.

Can you tell me which switch you mean?
Im planning to installe the fibaro dimmers/switches and a Vera2 in my new home in a few weeks

For the dimmers you will need a impuls switch with neutral middel position.
Jung,Merten, Backer all have this... Sometimes a big challenge to find them.
if you let me know the made and the type maybe i can help you with product numbers.

I don't see why there has to be a neutral middle position, i do not have that on my switch an it works fine

Have to add that i use a regular on/off "impulse" switch

I thought that you could use you existing light switches, even for the dimmer modules....?

The problem with the existing switch and the dimmer is that it has to be prevented for staying in the ON position.
I had a switch that i was able to by a small spring for, so it will automaticly go to the OFF position when releasing the button.

Well after reading this thread, I think that it may finally be time for me to now take a serious look at Zwave.

I have read the documentation I could find for this device but I am still not sure. Am I right in thinking that the FIB_FGD-211 universal dimmer can also function at a basic on/off device on a 2 wire (no neutral) lighting system?

I have a 2 wire lighting circuit, but I use a lot of non dimmable CFL type lamps which normally rules out the use of 2 wire control devices as these have traditionally been available in dimmer only flavour.

It may be that I could change to dimmable CFL's or some of the newer dimmable LED lamps as an alternative.

Hi,

I am using a couple of the Fibaro FGD-211 dimmers. They are great. They give real-time status updates to homeseer (even dim level), group with each other, dim my 12v halogen with electronic transformer and you can add a second switch for a hotel circuit.

I tested the dimmer with only on/off for my non dimmable CFL's. But without success. In the off position the CFL would flicker. Maybe it is because I used 2-wires. I have not tested it (yet) with a 3-wire connection. When I tested it with 3-wires I will post my results.

I'm using this dimmer with Jung puls-switches. They are high quality switches with a neutral position. The puls-switch as article number: 531EU, the trimplate CD581WW, and the wipper has CD590BFLWW (with light symbol ).

Yes, at least you can try to use FGD211 as an electronical switch in 2-wire installation. But you also need to use Fibaro Bypass in this installation (Parr. connection to your light source).

Thank's for the replies.

I thought the bypass was needed when you have a very low load like LED lamps. I understand that a very small current has to pass through the lamp in a 2 wire system in order to power the module and I realise that not all CFL and LED lamps allow this.

I am curently using some Home Easy dimmer modules http://www.homeeasy.eu/RemoteControlLig ... roduct/86/ which are a direct replacement for a UK light switch. These seem to work OK with the Varlight dimmable CFL lamps http://www.varilight.co.uk/lighting/cflsdimmer.html in a 2 wire setup with no flickering even at low dim levels, but of course Home Easy does not have status feedback. I have not tried the Home Easy switch with other brands of dimmable CFL or LED lamps.

Has anyone used the Fibaro dimmer with a dimmable CFL or LED?

You do not need a switch with a spring. Parameter 14 gives you the option to choose between mono stable and bi stable switch. Default is mono stable (with spring). I must say I'm impressed with these little things. Installation is very easy and at least the dimmers (haven't tested the other modules yet) work fine with Homeseer. As I do not have a neutral wire I use most of them as on/off switch. If you use them as a switch and the light source is not dimmable you must set parameter 10 to the value 0. This will assure that the time between on and off and vice versa is the shortest.
The optional bypass is only needed with low power light source like LED's.

I did read the pdf and established that either mono or bi stable switches are OK.

According to the pdf, it would appear that the device is designed to work with florescent tubes and CFL's and I expect that parameter 10 just disables the dimming feature so that it goes from off to full power and vice versa.

I think the best bet is to order a couple of modules and give them a try.

Is there any power-metering feature within the Fibaro modules? I don't see it mentioned anywhere, but you never know .
