Introducing myself and my plans

Post by StijnS »

Hi everybody!

I am Stijn. During the week I work as embedded developer (developing electronics, writing software for microcontrollers & FPGA's...) and during the weekends I'm bashing buttons on an Avolites lighting desk. So it's easy to conclude my hobbies are electronics and professional lighting.

When I saw the Bwired website, I suddenly got the feeling I should be able to create such a thing myself, so I started developing something...
First I am building a system that collects data from gas, electricity and water counters. The IO is handled by a Raspberry PI controllerboard (did I hear somebody say overkill?) and everything is stored in a MySQL database on my ReadyNAS. The frontend is written in PHP, but an Android app is on the todolist.

When I got some things that are worth showing, I will not hesitate! And as always: I'm open for any suggestions to improve my system.

Kind regards,

Stijn

Dear Stijn,

Great that you have the skills and the time to do some domotics related programming. Maybe you can save time when you join forces with Maarten Damen with his HouseAgent. In my opinion HouseAgent (www.houseagent.nl) is a nice start for a compact Domotics platform, but it can use aditional workforce to complete the basics. I have read that Maarten already compiled it for the Raspberry Pi, but i have not seen an SD card image. How did you guys manage to get one so early. Mine will be delivered in september.

Well, Thanks to all for the extra motivation! I hope it will start raining soon, so I'll have more time to work on it :D

I got my Raspberry PI from Farnell, but I did order with a business account. (Long live free shipping)

I'm looking now at HouseAgent, at first sight it looks like a really interesting project!
Edit: At second sight... It's too bad I don't understand a single letter of Python... If it were C++ I'd help immediately...

P.S. Can someone please disable post review? That is kind of annoying!
