Hello,
For a long time I am thinking of a easy way to detect which person is home and which is away. I came up with several options like:
- in / out switches per person
- mobile phone detection
- Rf reader / tags
The problem is that all options require action from the person, which I am sure of, my girlfriend and daughter are going to forget or don't see the value. And in case of the mobile phone, my daughter doesn't own one (jet).
I did thought of placing rf tags inside all shoes and placing two readers to detect entrance or leave. Is this a possible way to go or does it have flaws. Or does anyone have a better or easier way to go.
Thanks and best regards,
Wilco

Give this a thought.
After a week your girlfriend asks you.
'Didn't you notice that i have new shoes? Don't you like them?'

That's why this is such a good idea.
You set to be alerted when 2-3 days without inc-out messages from each person. If it's the girlfriend ask about her shoes and be rewarded ...

But how about the technique? Will the sole of the shoe block the rf signal?
I also suggested to place rf chips in our arms. But you all could guess what the answer to that was

Re: Who's home and who's away
I'm doing the same thing now (with some scripting on my 'own' automation system I am switching to HS soon).
My wife and I are using Android phones with the Tasker app. Whenever the phone detects we are near home (based on networking cells), it turns on wifi. My system checks every x seconds if some IP addresses are online (using ping). This is used to detect whose (phone) is in the house or has left.

That's a nice solution. I like the 'it turns wifi on' part.
However it wouldn't work for me because i don't have/own a mobile phone.
