CTX35 problem

Post by RdP »

I received my CTX35 today, but it seems defect.

Before I sent it back, I want to check some things with you.

I want to use it with homeseer and receive these errors:
9-5-2008 14:48:42 Error TI103: Unable to communicate with TI103. Check if port defined or cable connected.
9-5-2008 14:48:42 COM Plugin Error Error initializing X10 Interface: ERROR: Unable to communicate with TI103

I also downloaded the test program from the Xanura site, but this isn't working too. I receive a "change in CTX detected" every 2 seconds.

All tips are welcome...

CTX35 problem

Post by Snelvuur »

with homeseer its commen that most people know that you first have to send a signal (turn something on/off in homeseer) before it starts to work normally.

Also in the files section (http://files.binkey.nl/HomeSeer/TI103-C ... -2.0.2.zip) i think this is the latest version for it. You can check that out, hope it helps.

This is the log when i restart my Homeseer
after starting HS you need to send a X10 command from HS
If this works okay both lights on the CTX will flash.
this miens that the CTX is working fine.

If this helps you can send the command always with HS startup
++++++my startup.txt++++++++
' this is the startup script
' it is run once when HomeSeer starts up
'
' this is a good place to default status on some devices
'
sub main()
hs.ExecX10 "P10", "off", 0, 0
hs.run "ASPxLoader.vben"

hs.WriteLog "Startup","Scripting is OK"

' if speaker client is not running, start it
' if not hs.IsApplicationRunning("Speaker") then
' hs.Launch hs.GetAppPath & "\Speaker.exe","","",0
' end if

' speak
'hs.speak "Welcome to Home-Seer",TRUE

' add calls startup scripts and function calls here

end sub

CTX35 problem

One of the big advantages is that it uses a human-readable protocol; You can simply open your computer's serial port attached to the CTX35 using TeraTerm (Or HyperTerm if you have to). From there you can simply type commands for the CTX35 and view what responses you receive. If even that doesn't work, your unit is broken. But bear in mind that DOA is quite rare for electronics nowadays... Good luck!

Now I know that the errors in the HS log are 'normal' I had some kind of command in the startup script, which I found on the forum. Now I will try it like you do. (tested it, and it's still not working)

One more question is the recieve led blinking when you recieve a X10 command for example from a TM13. Mine dus not !!!

I use a null modem cable, I asume that's the right one ??

Thanks in advance,

Rien,
when the ctx35 is active the leds will blinking all the time.
I'm not sure about the correct serial cable.

CTX35 problem

RdP,

I use a straight thru (rechtdoor) cable, without any handshakes.
According to me pin 2, 3 and 5 must be connected on the 9p D connector on both sides.
Maybe you must reverse pin 2 and pin 3 (RX and TX).

If a MS13 sends something on the line it's stored in the CTX35 and the Rx and Tx leds are not blinking.

They are only blinking when the driver polls the data out of the CTX35.

Here is the diagram for the RS232 interface Xanura CTX35 http://www.domoticaforum.eu/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=876
Because the CTX35 controller is not an active one it needs te polled and asked if there is any data received.
If you want to act directly the polling frequency needs to be < 500ms And in this example the led will blink 2 times per second.

CTX35 problem

Post by RdP »

I figured it out !!! I had to read this forum better, but I was set on the wrong track by the suplier of the CTX35. He told me this afternoon that it must be a null modem cable, but it must be a straight cable. I exchanged pin 2 and 3 and now it's workong with the xanura test program.
Next test: Homeseer... Let you now the outcome later...
