Hi, Thanks for the prompt reply,
Well I'm not sure what camaras were used (think they are sony??) but the dvr model 411un genie stand alone, with usb and network, dc 12v.
Foggot to mention that I thought that the installer had run my sysytem though his own server, could cause the problem??

if it runs through his own server you should still get support. Otherwise if he goes bankrupt, so does your website then.

When reading the manual quicly i do notice it has ethernet and support for software to watch the camera's from a different station. So if that is possible it should also be able as a website. However i dont see any "manuals" online at genie cctv.com

See http://www.geniecctv.com/photos/dvr-411un.pdf , not much info on it. You have any manuals about the device?

Hello Erik,
No manuals to the dvr, I have my own web address, but how do i check if another serve is being used, the camaras are all ok to view local but its the remote is where the problum lies.
Its just something the installer said that using his server was possible.

i think this is more a setting on your router to port forward it to your cctv. I think you just need a good friend with some descent pc knowledge which can come over to take a look at it since there are to many "variables" which could cause this issue.

Hi Armani, if your dvr supports dns service, you only need to "open in your router dvr's port (generally 80) then configure in router a free dns service (for example dyndns.org) so you can have a fixed ip instead of your dynamic ip address. You don't need a web server, you dvr will be your own web-server. if it works , you will be able to run your dvr software trough internet. (your dvr has a software interface i hope!) otherwise you need a software like active webcam for example. bye . lorenzo

Hi Alan, i don't use voip because italian xdsl line are so bad......., by the way , type in forum-reply which is your router, i'll give you menu instructions if i can find user manual on the web, but the most important thing is: your dvr has lan port , then has web server inside? send me your dvr model too. bye. lorenzo

Alan,
What kind of ADSL line do you have and the upload speed. I'm sure it has to do with the upload speed of your line. The router is probably alright because you can see the pictures, but slow.

Hi both, so it seams that your system is already setup. Bwired is right, may be poor upload of your adsl. question: when "it works, at home, you see images pure localy? Try to be "out of home" like in Germany exploring your cams with your web browser, not internal cams utility. Then which browser do you use? Later, may be in the evening, i'm going to burn my Mvagusta tyres..it's sunny here too.
