so you're using "internal" viewer, you should find a local ip address in this software like 192.168.x.x , if so this is your internal ip you're looking at. by the way try to use internet explorer to look the images how you'd be outside. then does it crash? send me dvr type, software (informations generally under "question point" of any sw.) and router too. (right model please). Lorenzo

Ok it's very similar to mine, even with more features. So i tried to download the manual , but thre's only one type for all dvrs. http://www.geniecctv.com/photos/dvr4-8-16%20manual.pdf
then if you can ONLY configure by software, go to page 53. if , better, you can enter in the menu on screen of the dvr, without pc!, find lan settings or something similar. you should find your internal ip. you have 2 possibilities: the ip is automatic assigned by DHCP function of your router, or your technician assigned a fixed ip, in same range of your router. i prefer this one.check this please. then i'll explain you something else. then about your router, is this one? http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/c ... icId=16536

mac address not important ( it's a hardware feature), ip address: you MUST assign an ip , that is in the range of your router: generally router has a) 192.168.0.1 OR 192.168.1.1 but you must check that of your router,in user manual it's written the ip of the router otherwise you can not login and configure it. when you have ip you check it by login: web browser, http:\\192.168.xxx (YOUR ROUTER IP!). so in dvr, you're going to use a number of that range: i.e router = 192.168.1.1 use in dvr 192.168.1.20, then subnetmask 255.255.255.0 and gateway is router's ip =192.168.1.1 in my example. then send router model to go on with settings. bye

wait: dvr ip =? router ip=?. job isn't finished now you have to configure your router to let images going out over the net. so you can tell me the model or try to find by yourself in the router's menu something about DNS service. but i think that with a reference manual of the router i can give you the settings in a few minutes. paste the link the your router's manual if you can find it. i see you will have have a look to your cams in germany!

hi, i'll check for a manual. you didn't answer about ip values , give a look at last.
Remote camera access
Hi not sure what you mean about ip values?? Alan

the chosen ip for dvr is? , then the ip of router is?. about your router i found: ..."To make changes to your BT Home Hub setup, you need to 'log on' to the Home Hub, from where you'll be able to access settings and diagnostic screens. You can do this from a desktop or laptop that has a working connection to the Home Hub. From a connected machine, use the web browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc) and from the web browser address bar, enter the address: http://bthomehub.home and press Enter. If for any reason this doesn't work, you can also enter the IP address for the Home Hub (sometimes known as the gateway IP address) into a web browser. The default IP address for the BT Home Hub is 192.168.1.254...."
i think that your router has a different ip fron the default!

about your router user manual is difficult to find. i found this: you login, then ADVANCED, then something like DYNAMIC DNS. here you will write the settings of your account free dns. what is free dns? you go to www.dyndns.org , you create an account, then a service of dynamic dns (are free to max. 5 services for not commercial use) you'll be asked for a name for your service : may be "armani.dvrdns.org" this value will be inserted into dns settings of your router. you WILL SEE YOUR CAMS THROUGH INTERNET AT THIS ADDRESS : HTTP:\\ARMANI.DVRDNS.ORG. DON'T USE WWW. !!!!. before you should open the port (80 is the value) of your dvr. how to forward the port? login to router , advanced, find something about port , give as value 80 (or from 80 to 80) protocol=tcp+udp (both!) , and corresponding ip of this port is your dvr IP. that's all. ciao, lorenzo
